How to Dye Rice for Sensory Play

Sensory play is so important and let's just admit it, it's super fun!  We have used this recipe for coloring rice, beans, dried pasta, etc.  Remember to always supervise your children because these items are choking hazards.

What You Need

How We Did It

  1. Let your children scoop and pour the dried rice into ziploc baggies (one bag for each color you want to create).
  2. Add a few tablespoons of white vinegar with drops of food coloring of your choice.  The more drops, the brighter the colors.
  3. Close the baggie and let the children shake, turn, squish the rice all around, mixing the color.  You can always add more drops of color to get the color just the way you want.
  4. Spread colored rice onto foil or wax paper to dry.
  5.  ~ Play ~
